The rookie designated hitter launched a three-run shot off Louisville ace Jake Arrieta in the fourth inning to put the NL ahead 4-0. His solo blast off Flagstaff’s Jose Fernandez leading off the bottom of the seventh capped his MVP performance.

St. Louis catcher Nick Hundley drove in both runs for the SL, including a solo homer off Ottawa’s Jonathan Papelbon in the ninth inning.

Vancouver southpaw Chris Sale, the fourth of seven NL pitchers, struck out the side in the fifth inning to earn the victory. The North totaled 11 strikeouts, with starter Michael Pineda collecting three in his two innings.

The home team got started quickly off starter Zack Greinke of Oakland. Brooklyn second baseman Dee Gordon drew a leadoff walk, stole second and came home on a double by Cleveland’s Mike Moustakas.

Chicago’s Mike Trout greeted Arrieta with a leadoff single in the fourth. Argonauts shortstop Carlos Correa drew a one-out walk before the Cubs’ Buster Posey beat out a double play on a grounder to Tijuana’s Robinson Cano.

Schwarber then drove Arrieta’s full-count offering deep down the right field line for a 4-0 advantage.

Moustakas and Dublin outfielder Christian Yelich joined Schwarber and Hundley as the only players with two hits.

SL pitchers totaled eight strikeouts with Greinke fanning three and Compton’s Madison Bumgarner adding two.
