Calgary, Cleveland add big pieces

The Maple Leaf Division is shaping up to be quite a battle in 2015 and the Calgary Roughriders recently made a big move to remain a factor, packaging two players and two 2016 first-round picks to land slugger J.D. Martinez and starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks from Boston.

Martinez will definitely bolster the Calgary lineup, while Hendricks – just selected by the Braves with the 21st overall pick – could factor in the top half of the Roughriders’ rotation. In addition to the two picks, Boston landed first baseman Tommy Medica and minor league pitcher A.J. Cole.

Meanwhile, the Cleveland Tribe dealt from an abundance of top-level prospects to add ace lefty Cole Hamels from Tijuana. Hamels struggled to a 10-16 record and 5.55 ERA in his one season with the Tequila Swiggers, but will likely move to the top of the Tribe rotation. In return, the Swiggers got pitchers Noah Syndergaard and Sean Manaea, as well as a future second-round pick.
